Tuning involves changing the tension of 230 piano strings to raise or lower the pitch of all 88 notes on a piano. As a result, individual notes will sound pure, and harmonic notes will sound pleasant when played simultaneously.

Tuning may require a pitch correction depending on the piano’s condition.

Piano Age & Tuning
New
A piano less than 2 years old has parts that are made to be tight and loosen over time. Strings are still stretching and the soundboard hasn’t been seasoned with years of weather changes. The tuning will hold better as parts settle in. Tuning and maintaining a new piano will prepare it for future tuning stability and a long life.
Used
A piano less than 30 years old will usually be tunable. Harsh conditions such as; sitting outdoors, sitting in direct sun, enduring a flood, or sitting in a damp basement may affect a pianos ability to be tuned. If a piano is 30 years or older, read the next section.
Old
Our technician, Austin, has lots of experience working on tunable 30+ year old pianos, and has saved many other businesses said “can’t be tuned.” If yours really can’t be tuned, Austin can guide you in the next steps to finding an instrument that will better suit your situation.
